Skype is a telecommunications software that specializes in providing voice chat and video calls from computers, tablets, mobile devices, phones and other software. Users are able to send instant messages, exchange files, send video messages, or create video calls. It was released in August 2003 as "Skype 0.90" for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
Skype was purchased several times over time. It was purchased by eBay for approximately 2.6 billion dollars in September 2005. In September 2009, Silver Lake, Andreessen Horowitz, and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board purchased 65% of Skype for $1.9 billion from eBay. It was then later sold to Microsoft in May 2011 for $8.5 billion.
Skype is the main tool, along with Facebook, used by Laura to harass, then later brutally murder her friends. The main film revolves around a group of people being forcefully added into a Skype call by Laura, and her spirit forcefully making them either commit suicide, or killing them herself, all while making their friends watch as they tear apart their friendship.
